  • Training Program Ms. Wheeler has developed training programs for groups of any size, level of experience or specialty. She has performed training in settings as diverse as public health,  governmental organizations, military facilities, health maintenance organizations and physician offices.

    Guideline & Protocol Developer: Ms. Wheeler was the first telephone triage expert to develop age-based, patient-centered guidelines with content to address needs of high-risk, low-income, low literacy populations.  In the 1990’s, she developed software versions of these guidelines with two software companies. Ms. Wheeler will collaborate with EMR and software companies to improve  any Clinical Decision Support System design.  She will collaborate on refinement of existing CDSS software.

    My new two new favorite books:  The Digital Doctor:  Hope, Hype and Harm at the Dawn of Medicine’s Computer Age, by Robert Wachter, MD, and The Checklist Manifesto:  How to Get Things Right by Atul Gawande, MD. Both books speak to quality and safety in healthcare with implications for telephone triage safety.  The extraordinary challenge of making good decisions in telephone triage requires software that reduces human error and supports metacognition (knowing when & how to use certain strategies for solving a problem).
