Training: workshops, seminars and conferences
Since 1985, Sheila Wheeler has conducted telephone triage clinical training at a wide range of facilities: Medical residents at UCLA, VA hospitals and military facilities, the University of California, San Francisco, Kaiser Permanente, County facilities, Physician Group Practices, Canadian nurses and the Hospital Authority in Hong Kong, China.
In 2016, Ms Wheeler will present seminars at the University of California, San Francisco, Developmental Disabilities Administration, American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing conference and Contemporary Forums Conference Women’s Health and OB/GYN.
Recent Testimonial: “On behalf of our Regional Nurses, I’d like to thank you for your presentation on Telephone Triage. The acronyms were clear and concise and should definitely assist the nurses in being thorough in data gathering. The evaluations completed by the nurses in attendance show that the information provided was exactly what they needed. I’m optimistic that there will be a positive impact on their practice” D.W.G., RN, MSN, State Health Agency
Whether you need specialized training, legal nurse consulting, conference or guideline development or refinement, Ms. Wheeler brings expertise, professionalism, a passion for excellence and “real world” solutions to every telephone triage consultation project.
Please listen to Ms. Wheeler’s recent presentation “To Err is Human, To Delay is Deadly” at the 2015 AAACN conference.
CUSTOMIZED SEMINARS FOR MANAGERS Ms Wheeler has developed seminars for military and VA facilities, group practices, and HMOs. She was chosen to consult for a three-day training for the Hospital Authority in Hong Kong, China. The “Telephone Triage Preceptor Program” is a new product comprised of on-site training, a 100 page self-study work-book, audio taped case studies, 50 case study exercises, a certification examination as well as 30 hours of CE credit for participants.
Thoughts from Thought Leaders
My new two new favorite books: The Digital Doctor: Hope, Hype and Harm at the Dawn of Medicine’s Computer Age, by Robert Wachter, MD, and The Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right by Atul Gawande, MD. Both books speak to quality and safety in healthcare with implications for telephone triage safety. The extraordinary challenge of making good decisions in telephone triage requires software that reduces human error and supports metacognition (knowing when & how to use certain strategies for solving a problem).
